Stefan's description
The kitchen fronts and countertops in our new home were in serious need of replacing. The countertop is easy to do, but the kitchen fronts were a different story. Because they were often not standard sizes and we could not find cheap custom fronts, there was only one thing to do: make the kitchen fronts yourself. We did this with MDF Moisture-resistant V313 plates, 18mm thick. This was possible for the drawers, hinged doors, carousel doors, but also for the dishwasher and refrigerator panel.
How I made this project
Measuring the cabinets was not a problem difficult. You carefully note which fronts you currently have, check whether they have the correct dimensions for your kitchen, and order the plates from TOSIZE.es. Make sure that you use moisture-resistant MDF (V313) for the kitchen. The planks are then laid out in order, all sharp edges and ends are sanded and then treated twice with edge sealer. Very important, because the ends suck like crazy. Degrease everything, sand lightly, and you are ready for priming. We used Sikkens Rubbol BL Primer for this, in a very light gray color. Prime twice with a sanding between each coat is sufficient. Then 2 layers of varnish with Sikkens Rubbol BL Rezisto in the same color, and the fronts are ready again. It can be that simple. We did employ a professional to install the new fronts. After all, you don't want to have to do the whole process again. The end result speaks for itself, we would recommend this fun and budget-friendly project to everyone!
