IKEA hacks SMÅSTAD DIY
The IKEA SMÅSTAD collection is affordable and practical. The toy drawer or toy chest is especially popular and widely used to make a nice kids' corner. But, the design is not really original. That's why our handymen got to work with these IKEA SMÅSTAD hacks.
We'll tell you which plaatmaterialen handymen used with each DIY project in this article. Ordering the right custom-made wood will make your hack a lot easier. At TOSIZE.es, you buy precisely cut timber in almost all shapes and with many finishes. We deliver it quickly to your home. That saves you a lot of tedious sawing.
IKEA children's desk with plywood panels
Handyman Frank hacked the SMÅSTAD toy chest and turned it into a fun children's desk. He used plywood birch which he had us cut exactly to size and mitred. Under the desk part of his DIY project, he placed corner profiles, so you won't see any screw holes from the outside. The whole thing is finished with clear interior stain.
Add a nice wooden chair and your child will have fun!
Play corner with oak joinery panel
This very cute kids' corner with rustieke eiken timmerpanelen is by handyman Yvette. The oak top rests on scaffold tubes and the SMÅSTAD element. The top has been sanded and treated with oil. This gives it some more colour and protects the wood from the greasy kids' hands, streaks from crayons and glue residue that the kids will undoubtedly leave on this.
The raised shelf at the back gives it a fun twist and the leather handles make the toy drawer a bit more playful. The board with magnetic and blackboard paint finishes it off. A very nice DIY project!
IKEA SMÅSTAD drawer with desk
This children's desk with storage makes for a nice, tidy playcorner in handyman Patrick's room. The top is a eiken timmerpaneel that rests on the right side on two homemade scaffold tubes with scaffold tube base plates. Again, playful leather handles were chosen on the toy drawer.
And why Patrick ordered the wood from TOSIZE.es? As he himself says: "I'll never get it that neat myself, of course!"
Children's desk with plywood birch
A simple example of a fun SMÅSTAD hack is this children's desk with multiplexplaat. The boards were sanded by handyman Patty and finished with matt clear varnish. The screws are neatly countersunk into the wood. As Patty herself says: "Really super simple!"
Large play desk with two SMÅSTAD drawers
Handyman Kwan thinks big and it shows in this IKEA SMÅSTAD hack. He used not one but two SMÅSTAD drawers and mounted a large multiplex berken plank over them. Plywood shelves have also been placed on the sides of the toy drawers.
The wood was sanded and varnished by Kwan. The result is a nice children's desk with plenty of storage space.
Fun kids' corner with glued boards
Handyman Tooske also chose to create a fun kids' corner with the IKEA SMÅSTAD storage drawer. She glued the plywood sheets cut to size with wood glue and then screwed them together for extra strength.
To set the furniture tightly against the wall, she has made notches at the back. That way it falls nicely over the skirting board. Handy!
Children's desk with chalkboard and scaffold tube
Handyman Nikki was inspired by Yvette above (or is it the other way around?) and also made a really cute kids' desk with scaffold tubes and a chalkboard behind it. She chose beautiful oak timber panels, cut to size by TOSIZE.es.
The raised edge is meant to protect the wall. The house-shaped board is treated with magnetic and blackboard paint. The oak board rests on one side on the SMÅSTAD and on the other side on black scaffolding tubes with round footplates.
A very nice and cool IKEA hack!
