Order plywood primed to size
Plywood is a strong board material; you often see it in constructions and other projects where constructive quality is important. It is also used in visible work, as plywood has a beautiful, natural appearance due to the solid wood used to make the material. Plywood can also be painted and, like many other wood and panel materials, must first be primed. This is a time-consuming job, especially for larger projects, which is why there are different varieties of plywood, for example plywood on which the primer has already been applied. This way you can start painting right away and save a lot of time! The most popular varieties are poplar plywood and okoumé plywood. Both varieties have their own quality and come out best in specific rooms.

Primed poplar plywood
Okoumé wood can withstand moisture relatively well; it warps less in humid conditions and is also somewhat more flexible. The exterior gluing ensures that the veneer layers do not separate in changing temperatures and degrees of humidity. This makes the plywood more resistant to moisture and will last longer in outdoor applications. A good treatment of the material is important! The primer on top and bottom is a good start; the ends should be treated with an edge sealer, just like poplar primed plywood.
Okoumé primed plywood
Okoumé wood can withstand moisture relatively well; it warps less under humid conditions and is also somewhat more flexible. The exterior gluing guarantees that the veneer layers will not peel off in changing temperatures and degrees of humidity. This makes the plywood more resistant to moisture and will last longer in outdoor applications. A good treatment of the material is important! The primer on top and bottom is a good start; the ends should be treated with an edge sealer, just like poplar primed plywood.
Uniprime
UniPrime is a WBP glued plywood board that is not primed, but finished with a lacquer-carrying film; similar to MDF lacquer-carrying. UniPrime boards are, just like Okoumé primed plywood, suitable for damp spaces indoors and outdoors. The ends, just like other plywood panels, should be treated with an edge sealer for optimal moisture resistant properties.
The gluing of the veneer layers
The gluing of the plywood has been discussed several times in this article. With plywood, the moisture resistant characteristics of the material depend on the species of wood used and on the gluing. Two terms are generally used to indicate the types of gluing: MR and WBP. You can read what these terms mean here:
An MR bond
MR stands for Moist Resistant, which literally translated means moisture resistant. At first glance, you would therefore say that the adhesive is resistant to moisture, but in reality that is not quite the case. An MR bond is protected against accidental, brief contact with moisture, but not against systematic exposure to moisture. If the material is exposed to moisture from time to time, this is of course not a problem, but if you want to use it in a space where it is often humid, for example a bathroom or kitchen, then a WBP glued board is a better choice.
A WBP bonding
A WBP bonding, also known as exterior or water resistant bonding, stands for 'Water Boiled Proof'. This means that a WBP glued board has passed a special test in which it has been placed in boiling water for 72 hours. If the glue does not come off during this test, the board is given the classification WBP. A board with the classification 'WBP glued' therefore has an adhesive that is strong enough for use in damp spaces and outdoors.
